After your new Calgary roof — the care guide.
How to get the longest life out of a new Calgary roof. Spoiler: it’s mostly leaving it alone.
The short version
A properly-installed Calgary roof needs almost no maintenance. Don’t walk on it. Don’t powerwash it. Don’t pressure-spray moss treatments on it. Don’t use a snow rake aggressively.
What you should do:
Annual visual inspection. Walk around the house twice a year. Check for missing or lifted shingles after Chinook windstorms and hail events. If something looks wrong from the ground, call us for a free drone inspection.
Keep gutters clear. Leaves and debris in gutters back water up under the shingles at the eaves. Clear them twice a year — late spring and late fall.
Trim overhanging branches. Branches scraping against shingles wear granules off and create ingress points. 8+ feet of clearance is the goal.
Watch for ice damming in January. If you see ice forming at the eaves, the underlying cause is attic heat leakage, not the roof. See our ice dam guide.
What our 10-year workmanship warranty covers
If anything we installed (shingles, flashing, vent, valley, ridge cap) ever leaks because of our installation within 10 years of the install date, we come back and fix it free.
The warranty doesn’t cover:
- ·Manufacturer defects in the shingle itself (those are covered by the shingle’s separate manufacturer warranty).
- ·Damage from hail, falling tree limbs, or other acts of God (those are insurance events).
- ·Damage from your own modifications (satellite dish install, attic ventilation modification, etc.).
If you’re ever unsure whether something falls under the warranty — call us. We’d rather do a free service call than have you frustrated.
